PICCSI was started by an Australian doctor, Dr Nicola Fitzgerald, with the assistance of her Fijian colleague, Dr Amanda Noovao-Hill.
Nicola has spent time working as a volunteer specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist in Fiji and Vanuatu.
Amanda was born in the Cook Islands and lives in Fiji where she holds a position at the Fiji National University as head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Nicola and Amanda are helped by a number of volunteer doctors, nurses, allied health care workers, technicians and project workers who graciously donate their time and expertise. They receive no remuneration for their efforts and PICCSI is extremely appreciative for their involvement.
PICCSI is equally grateful to its sponsors, without whom the project would not survive. New sponsors are always sought after and there are a number of ways in which you can help. Of course a monetary donation offers PICCSI the most flexibility, but donations of medical equipment and consumables, transportation, accommodation and a variety of other things are very much appreciated.
